ROXY x Masanobu Featuring Stephanie Gilmore

The ROXY x Masanobu collaboration, featuring the legendary surfer Stephanie Gilmore, emerged as a creative intersection between high-fashion artistic sensibilities and professional surfing culture. Launched to celebrate the spirit of movement and feminine athleticism, the collection utilized the distinctive, vibrant, and surrealist illustrations of Japanese artist Masanobu. The collaboration sought to blend technical surf apparel with a distinctively artistic aesthetic, moving away from traditional sports branding toward a more expressive, gallery-inspired look.

Masanobu’s design approach for this line focused on fluid, organic forms that mirrored the motion of waves and the grace Gilmore is known for in the water. By integrating these intricate graphics onto high-performance materials, ROXY aimed to provide gear that felt as much like a wearable piece of art as it was a functional tool for the ocean. The reception was largely positive among surf enthusiasts and fashion-forward athletes who appreciated the departure from standard industry aesthetics, cementing it as a notable example of athlete-driven design in the surf industry.
