Where it came from
The Ruri Dragon promotional video was produced to celebrate the serialized launch of Masaoki Shindo’s manga in Weekly Shonen Jump. Created as a short animation to capture the manga's unique blend of slice-of-life comedy and supernatural elements, the piece introduces Ruri, a high school student who discovers she is half-dragon. The animation highlights the manga’s distinctively calm aesthetic, contrasting mundane school life with the sudden, awkward arrival of draconic traits.
The design and direction of the promotional video were crafted to emphasize the manga’s low-key, dry sense of humor, which set it apart from typical high-octane shonen action series. By focusing on fluid character expressions and a grounded, atmospheric color palette, the production team aimed to reflect the charm of Shindo’s art style. Upon its release, the video was well-received by fans for its faithfulness to the source material, effectively generating anticipation for the series' debut.
