Ryoutei no Aji

Ryoutei no Aji was released in 2014 as a promotional short film commissioned by the Marukome miso company. Produced by Studio Colorido, the project was part of a larger campaign intended to modernize the brand's image by leveraging high-quality animation to evoke nostalgic, heartwarming domestic scenes centered around traditional Japanese cooking.

The short was directed by Hiroyasu Ishida, who was then establishing his reputation for fluid, emotionally resonant character animation. His design approach prioritized a soft, painterly aesthetic that emphasized the sensory details of miso soup preparation. The work was well-received by animation enthusiasts for its atmospheric quality, effectively positioning the commercial as a standalone piece of short-form storytelling rather than a traditional advertisement.
