Sacrilege

Sacrilege is a 2000 original video animation (OVA) that occupies a niche space within the adult animation market of the early 2000s. Produced during a period when the OVA format allowed for more experimental and lower-budget storytelling compared to television broadcast standards, the work was designed to explore darker thematic elements typical of the 'dark fantasy' aesthetic prevalent in underground animation circles of that era.

The production sought to lean into the atmospheric, gothic visual language that characterized much of the direct-to-video market at the time, prioritizing stylized character designs and a moody, minimalist narrative. While it did not achieve mainstream critical acclaim, it remains a documented example of the era's focus on high-concept, short-form genre fiction, functioning as a deliberate exercise in visual tone rather than traditional plot development.
