Where it came from
Saga Jihen is a promotional short film released by the animation studio MAPPA in 2021 to support the Saga prefecture's tourism initiatives. It serves as a narrative bridge connecting the world of the popular anime series Zombie Land Saga to the real-world geography and culture of the prefecture, utilizing the show's signature blend of dark humor and musical performance to draw attention to local landmarks.
The animation features the creative input of the original Zombie Land Saga production team, including character designs that maintain the aesthetic established by series director Munehisa Sakai. While intended primarily as a marketing piece, the short was received positively by the franchise's dedicated fan base for its high production value and its ability to seamlessly integrate the fictional idol group, Franchouchou, into the authentic landscape of Saga.
