Saint Seiya Omega

Saint Seiya Omega was produced by Toei Animation as a direct sequel to the iconic 1980s Saint Seiya series. It premiered in 2012 to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Masami Kurumada’s original manga, aiming to introduce the franchise to a new generation of viewers while retaining its core mythological themes. The series departed from the classic aesthetic by incorporating elements of modern anime design, including redesigned armors known as Cloths and a revised color palette.

The production sought to balance nostalgia with innovation, featuring both returning characters and a new cast of young protagonists. Yoshihiko Umakoshi served as the character designer and chief animation director, emphasizing sleeker, more stylized figures compared to the original show. While the series received a mixed reception from long-time fans who were accustomed to the traditional style of Shingo Araki, it remains a notable entry in the franchise for its experimental approach to the long-standing Saint Seiya mythos.
