Where it came from
Sakura Wars: School of Paris was produced by Radix Ace Entertainment and released in 2003 as a three-part original video animation series. It serves as a spin-off to the broader Sakura Wars multimedia franchise, shifting the setting from the Imperial Capital of Tokyo to the romanticized atmosphere of 1920s Paris. The series focuses on the Paris Combat Revue, a group of heroines who defend the city from supernatural threats while maintaining their cover as a performing troupe.
The character designs were handled by Kōsuke Fujishima, who established the visual identity for the entire series. His goal was to translate the franchise's signature blend of steampunk aesthetic, theatrical flair, and character-driven drama into a European context. The animation received a favorable reception from the established fanbase for its high production values and its successful expansion of the franchise's lore beyond the original Japanese theater setting.
