San Jie Wuliu

San Jie Wuliu, or Three Realms of Five-Six, is a Chinese original net animation (ONA) produced by the streaming platform Youku. Released as part of a wave of domestic animation expansion, the series blends elements of fantasy, adventure, and wuxia to create a distinct narrative experience set within a stylized interpretation of traditional Chinese mythological concepts. Its production reflects the broader industrial push by Chinese streaming services to develop proprietary high-quality animated content to compete with international imports.

The visual identity of the series is characterized by a marriage of digital cel-shaded animation and a color palette rooted in contemporary digital aesthetics. The character designs were crafted to emphasize expressive, fluid movement, a hallmark of the studio's desire to modernize classic motifs for a younger, mobile-first audience. Upon its release, the series was noted for its departure from traditional historical epics, favoring a more episodic and lighthearted approach that helped it find a dedicated following among fans of modern Chinese web-based media.
