In this world, there live a group of people who call themselves "Majo" or "Magical Girls". They hide their powers so as to assimilate into the environment. They have been living together in harmony with the humans for many years to come, and their predecessors continue to do so. Sasami was enthroned with magical powers since her birth. However, at the age of three, she was told by her parents never to use her innate powers and from then on, had kept it a secret from everyone. On the day of a new school term, a new transfer teacher by the name of Wajuu arrives and from then on, Sasami's life begins to change tremendously.

Where it came from
Sasami Magical Girls Club was produced by AIC Spirits and released in 2006 as a spin-off of the long-running Tenchi Muyo! franchise. It reimagines the character Sasami Kawai within a magical girl framework, shifting the tone away from the sci-fi harem roots of the original series toward a more whimsical, character-driven narrative focused on friendship and elementary school life. The production reflects a broader trend in mid-2000s anime, where studios utilized established intellectual properties to experiment with different genres and art styles.
The series design aesthetic is notably distinct from earlier Tenchi Muyo! iterations, favoring soft, rounded character models and vibrant, pastel-heavy color palettes that align with the magical girl subgenre popularized by works like Cardcaptor Sakura. While the series was received as a gentle and accessible entry point for younger viewers, long-time fans of the franchise were often divided by the significant departure from the established continuity and tone of the original Sasami character.
