Where it came from
Scryed Alteration II: Quan was released in 2012 as the second part of a two-film compilation series produced by the animation studio Sunrise. These films were commissioned to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the original 2001 television series, Scryed, a high-octane science fiction anime directed by Goro Taniguchi. The project served to refine the narrative pacing and visual presentation of the original series for a modern audience, utilizing re-edited footage and updated sound mixing to distill the core conflict between the inhabitants of the Lost Ground.
The character design for the franchise was led by Hisashi Hirai, whose distinct, angular aesthetic defined the show's intense action sequences and emotional dramatic beats. In transitioning the series into the Alteration film format, the production team aimed to streamline the complex lore while maintaining the vibrant, stylized energy that made the original show a cult favorite. Upon release, the films were well-received by long-term fans for their polished technical execution and for successfully capturing the volatile, psychic-powered spirit of the source material.
