SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors

SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors was produced by Sunrise and aired in 2010 as a unique crossover project that reinterpreted the classic 14th-century Chinese historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms through the lens of the Super Deformed Gundam franchise. The series was designed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Gunpla models, aiming to revitalize interest in the SD line by blending traditional mecha aesthetics with the iconic characters and power dynamics of the Han Dynasty era.

The character designs were overseen by the creative teams at Sunrise to ensure each mobile suit reflected the personality and status of its historical counterpart, such as Guan Yu Gundam and Cao Cao Gundam. While the series was aimed at a younger demographic and intended to drive merchandise sales of the associated model kits, it was well-received by fans for its ambitious world-building and the successful fusion of Chinese folklore with the established Gundam universe's lore.
