Where it came from
Seraph of the End: Kyuuketsuki Shahal was released in 2016 as an original video animation accompanying the eleventh volume of the Seraph of the End manga series. Produced by WIT Studio, the project serves as a standalone side story that expands upon the lore of the dark fantasy franchise created by Takaya Kagami. It was conceived to provide fans with additional narrative depth following the conclusion of the two-season television anime adaptation, focusing on a self-contained conflict involving the series' vampire and demon elements.
The animation reflects the high-contrast aesthetic and stark, gothic-inspired character designs established in the main series by character designer Satoshi Kadowaki. WIT Studio sought to maintain the visual intensity of the source material while utilizing the OVA format to experiment with pacing outside of the strict requirements of a broadcast schedule. Upon release, it was received as a niche completionist piece, appreciated by the established fanbase for its fidelity to the original manga's tone and its continuation of the series' signature supernatural atmosphere.
