Where it came from
Sexfriend was released in 2004 by the studio Green Bunny, an imprint well-known within the adult animation sector for its focus on specific subgenres of anime. Produced during a period when the market for original video animation (OVA) titles was transitioning toward digital production methods, the work serves as a representative example of the studio's established aesthetic and thematic priorities at the time.
The creative direction of the piece reflects the standard industry practices of early 2000s boutique animation studios, which frequently relied on streamlined character designs to maintain consistency within the limitations of independent production budgets. As an OVA, it was created specifically for the home media market, allowing the creators to explore content that was intentionally curated for a niche audience of animation enthusiasts.
