Where it came from
Shadowverse Flame debuted in 2022 as the second television anime adaptation within the Shadowverse franchise, produced by studio ZEXCS. Serving as a sequel series to the original 2020 anime, it shifts the focus to a new protagonist, Light Tenryu, and his integration into the Shadowverse College. The series was designed to expand the franchise's multimedia appeal, blending traditional card game battle tropes with a more character-driven narrative centered on the competitive ecosystem of digital card gaming.
The animation direction and character designs under ZEXCS aimed to capture the high-energy aesthetic of modern shonen card-battle series while maintaining consistency with the visual identity established by Cygames in the original mobile game. The series was received as a stylistic evolution of its predecessor, praised by fans of the genre for its refined pacing and the introduction of new gameplay mechanics that mirrored updates being made to the digital title at the time of its broadcast.
