The famous blue ruby is stolen in such an elaborate way, that only one villain can be suspected - Professor Moriarty. It is up to Sherlock Holmes to return it and, in the process, to turn a young pick-pocket on the right path. In the second part, Moriarty sets his sights even higher, stealing a top-secret submarine from the Navy. What does he need it for? Holmes is once again on the trail.

Where it came from
Sherlock Hound, or Meitantei Holmes, originated from a collaborative television production between the Japanese studio TMS Entertainment and the Italian broadcaster RAI. The project is most notable for the involvement of Hayao Miyazaki, who directed the first several episodes before production complications led to a hiatus and eventual completion by Kyosuke Mikuriya. The series reimagines Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic detective as an anthropomorphic dog, blending Victorian atmosphere with imaginative steampunk technology.
The 1984 film format consists of two episodes, 'The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle' and 'Treasure Under the Sea,' which were released theatrically in Japan as a double feature alongside Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. The visual style reflects the charm of early 1980s cel animation, characterized by expressive character designs and vibrant, detailed backgrounds. While the project faced significant delays due to rights disputes, it ultimately secured a lasting legacy as a beloved piece of animation history, appreciated for its whimsical tone and lighthearted take on classic mystery tropes.
