When Kanako accidentally applies to work at an assassination agency, the timid office worker discovers that she has a knack for bumping people off. Will she ever earn the respect of Sakurai, her prickly and kinda hot co-worker–and why is she still having silly workplace problems when she’s employed with hitmen?! This full-color manga is dangerously funny!

Where it came from
Shiawase Kanako no Koroshiya Seikatsu, or Kanako's Happy Assassin Life, emerged as a 2027 television series adaptation produced by Studio Drive. The work originated from the manga series by Shinichi Fukuda, which gained popularity for its juxtaposition of a gentle, unassuming protagonist navigating the brutal environment of contract killing. The adaptation reflects the studio's interest in character-driven narratives that blend comedy with dark, subverted tropes of the thriller genre.
The series design and visual direction were aimed at maintaining the distinct aesthetic balance between Kanako's domestic optimism and the stylized, often grim, visual language of the assassin underworld. By focusing on the protagonist's transition from a regular job to her new career, the series aimed to explore themes of workplace burnout and adaptability. Upon its release, it was noted for its faithful adaptation of the source material's tonal shifts, garnering appreciation from fans of character-focused seinen animation.
