Shin Dousei Jidai: HAWAIIAN BREEZE

Shin Dousei Jidai: Hawaiian Breeze is an adult-oriented original video animation released in 1996 by the studio Animaruya. It belongs to a wave of late-twentieth-century Japanese animation productions that drew inspiration from the long-running manga series Dousei Jidai, originally created by Kazuo Kamimura. The work serves as a stylistic continuation of the themes present in the source material, focusing on the intimate and often complex dynamics of cohabitation in a modern setting.

The production sought to blend the established aesthetic of 1990s character design with the exotic, scenic backdrops characteristic of the 'resort' subgenre popular in OVAs of that era. Animaruya utilized this release to capitalize on the sustained interest in slice-of-life romance narratives, attempting to translate the manga's grounded storytelling into a vibrant, animated format. While it occupies a niche space in animation history, it remains a notable example of the studio's attempt to bridge literary manga adaptations with the visual sensibilities of its time.
