"Unknown" is a mysterious enemy that suddenly appeared a long time ago. As a countermeasure, the "Evolutionary Railway Development Agency" (ERDA) has developed the "Shinkalion" robot that transform into bullet trains, to prepare for the threat.
"I want to be a cool person who can protect something..." Taisei Oonari, a second-year junior high school student, transfers to Shinkai Gakuen Middle School in search of clues about his older sister who disappeared two years ago.
Just then, the Unknown appears for the first time in 10 years. Taisei happens to have a high aptitude value as a Shinkalion pilot, and is forced to make a decision to fight it. What is the true nature of the Unknown and what is its purpose? What is the truth that comes to light at the end of the fight? The story of the boys' determination and growth begins now.

Where it came from
Shinkalion: Change the World, released in 2024, is the latest iteration in the Shinkalion franchise, which reimagines Japan’s iconic Shinkansen bullet trains as transforming mecha robots. Produced by Studio I.G in collaboration with Signal.MD, the series was developed to align with the evolving technological aesthetic of modern animation while maintaining the franchise's long-standing partnership with the Japan Railways Group. The project aims to blend high-octane action sequences with the industrial design principles of actual railway engineering.
The character and mecha designs for this iteration were focused on creating a sleeker, more dynamic profile compared to its predecessors, reflecting a shift toward contemporary narrative tones. The production team emphasized the integration of real-world train mechanics into the transformation sequences, a hallmark of the series' design philosophy. Upon its release, the series was noted for its technical polish and its role in continuing a cross-promotional legacy that connects toy-line merchandising with television storytelling.
