Where it came from
The Shobo Kujira Chibi Cobra originates from the broader line of stylized merchandise produced in coordination with NHK’s programming, drawing aesthetic influence from the minimalist character design traditions found in Japanese public broadcasting mascots. The figure was crafted to capture a whimsical, simplified take on marine and serpentine themes, intended to appeal to both younger audiences and adult collectors of broadcast-related memorabilia.
The design emphasizes a 'chibi' aesthetic, characterized by exaggerated proportions and a soft color palette that reflects the approachable, educational tone typically associated with the studio's character development teams. While the specific artist is often credited to the internal creative department at NHK, the piece is recognized for its clean lines and high-quality synthetic construction, which helped solidify its place as a staple of their character merchandise collections during its production cycle.
