Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu: Iubeki Monokashira

Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu: Iubeki Monokashira was produced as an original video animation accompanying the limited edition release of the visual novel of the same name in 2016. Developed by studio project No.9, the OVA serves as a companion piece to the franchise, which follows a group of high school students attempting to navigate the competitive world of game development. The narrative focuses on the interpersonal dynamics and creative hurdles faced by the characters as they aspire to produce their own title, mirroring the themes found in the primary source material.

The production design captures the distinct aesthetic established by the character designer Takayuki Noguchi, whose work on the series aimed to maintain a balance between lighthearted slice-of-life tropes and the earnest, occasionally stressful realities of indie game creation. While the franchise itself garnered a dedicated following among visual novel enthusiasts, the OVA is viewed primarily as an extension of the character studies explored in the visual novel. It was received as a niche release intended specifically for fans of the source material rather than as a standalone narrative.
