Silhouette Dance

Silhouette Dance was released as part of the 1984 arcade game release by Sega, titled 'Sega Ninja' in some markets and 'Ninja Princess' in others. The game was designed by Rieko Kodama, one of the most prominent female developers at Sega during the 1980s, who brought a distinct visual flair and artistic sensibility to the project. The silhouette aesthetic was a deliberate choice to distinguish the title within the crowded landscape of 8-bit arcade action games, focusing on high-contrast visuals and fluid, rhythmic character movement.

The game is remembered as an early example of the run-and-gun genre, though it featured a unique top-down perspective that required precise timing and agility. Reception was generally positive among arcade operators who noted its striking visual presentation and challenging difficulty curve. While it did not achieve the massive global footprint of Sega's later mascot-led franchises, it remains a cult classic among enthusiasts of mid-eighties arcade design for its minimalist art direction and the foundational work it provided for later action-oriented titles.
