Silent Möbius 2: The Motion Picture

Silent Möbius 2 was released in 1992 as a direct cinematic follow-up to the 1991 feature film adaptation of Kia Asamiya’s popular cyberpunk manga. Produced by Kadokawa Shoten and animated by AIC, the film was designed to expand the atmospheric, supernatural crime-fighting narrative established in the original manga series. It sought to capitalize on the aesthetic popularity of the 'female-led task force' subgenre, blending high-tech military hardware with arcane, occult-themed adversaries.

The film’s visual style was closely supervised to maintain the distinctive, ornate character designs for which Asamiya was known, emphasizing intricate weaponry and gothic-inspired urban environments. While it was received as a stylistic continuation of the franchise's dark, neon-soaked vision, critics often noted that the transition from a serialized print medium to a standalone film required a condensed narrative structure that focused more on visual spectacle and character introductions than on complex world-building.
