Sinbi Apateu: Geumbit Dokkaebiwa Bimirui Donggul

Sinbi Apateu: Geumbit Dokkaebiwa Bimirui Donggul, released in 2018, stands as the first feature-length theatrical film derived from the immensely popular South Korean animated franchise The Haunted House. Produced by CJ ENM, the film was conceived to bridge the gap between television seasons, expanding the supernatural mystery narrative of the series into a cinematic format suitable for a wider theatrical audience. It centers on the familiar protagonist Hari and her friends as they encounter a golden goblin, further grounding the series in Korean folklore and mythological aesthetics that have become hallmarks of the brand.

The production design team focused on translating the show's signature aesthetic of urban fantasy into a high-fidelity visual experience capable of holding a theater screen. By integrating traditional Korean dokkaebi elements with contemporary character design, the creative team aimed to maintain the series' reputation for blending suspense with lighthearted comedy. Upon its release, the film was received as a significant milestone for local animation, demonstrating the sustained market demand for domestic content that blends localized ghost stories with modern action-adventure storytelling tropes.
