Sono Toki, Kanojo wa.

Sono Toki, Kanojo wa. was produced in 2018 by studio Master Lights as an original short-form anime series. The project was conceived as a multi-perspective romantic drama, focusing on the intersection of various characters' lives in Tokyo. Its creation was notable for being spearheaded by manga artist Eisaku Kubonouchi, who provided the original character designs, infusing the series with his signature grounded, expressive aesthetic that emphasizes human connection over traditional genre tropes.

The series was directed by Susumu Kudo and structured to capture fleeting, poignant moments between individuals. By centering the narrative on the complex, often unspoken sentiments of its characters, the show sought to provide a meditative look at urban life and timing. Upon its release, it was received as a stylish, atmospheric piece of animation, praised by critics for its minimalist approach and the aesthetic continuity maintained between Kubonouchi’s illustrations and the final screen adaptation.
