Where it came from
Sora Tobu Usagi no Yuukai Boushi: Boku Iya da yo! (The Kidnapping of the Flying Rabbit: I Don't Want To!) was released in 1990 as an original video animation produced by Studio Pierrot. During this era, the studio was heavily invested in diverse animation projects, balancing their high-profile television series with niche experimental works and standalone shorts aimed at younger audiences.
The production reflects the distinct aesthetic sensibilities of late 1980s and early 1990s Japanese animation, characterized by expressive character designs and whimsical narratives typical of children's fantasy titles of that period. As a singular OVA entry, the work served as a creative outlet for the studio's animation team to explore playful storytelling techniques outside the rigid constraints of long-running episodic broadcast series.
