Sore ga Boku no Otou-san

Sore ga Boku no Otou-san, or That Is My Father, was produced by NHK as part of its long-running programming commitment to children’s animation and moral education. Broadcast within the context of Japanese public television’s dedicated slots for youth content, the title was designed to explore themes of family dynamics, parental responsibility, and the child's perspective on the adult world. It reflects the broadcaster's traditional approach to producing character-driven narratives that emphasize interpersonal growth and domestic harmony.

The aesthetic direction of this production follows the clean, accessible visual language typical of NHK’s mid-era animation. By prioritizing clear character silhouettes and expressive facial work, the creative team aimed to make the subject matter relatable to a younger audience while maintaining the sophisticated pacing for which the studio is known. Upon its release, the work was noted for its steady, grounded storytelling, fitting well within the genre of social-emotional educational media that the network consistently supported throughout that period.
