Where it came from
Sorcery in the Big City is an original net animation released in 2017 by XFLAG Pictures, serving as a promotional tie-in for the mobile game Monster Strike. The short was developed to expand the world-building of the franchise, shifting the focus from the game's standard fantasy settings to a contemporary urban environment where magic and daily life intersect.
The animation features a distinct visual style characterized by energetic action sequences and a blend of traditional anime aesthetics with modern metropolitan motifs. It was designed to broaden the appeal of the Monster Strike brand to viewers who appreciate fast-paced urban fantasy, receiving generally positive attention for its production values and its role in demonstrating the studio's ability to adapt the game's characters into standalone narrative formats.
