Spice and Wolf II Specials

The Spice and Wolf II Specials, released by Funimation in 2009, were produced as supplemental content to accompany the home video release of the second season of the anime adaptation of Isuna Hasekura's light novel series. These shorts, often referred to as 'Ookami to Koushinryou II: Holo no Shuukaku no Jikan,' were created to provide lighthearted, comedic vignettes that expanded on the dynamic between the traveling merchant Kraft Lawrence and the wise wolf deity Holo. They serve as a tonal bridge, offering a more whimsical side to the series' core focus on medieval economics and philosophical dialogue.

The animation production for these specials maintained the character designs established by Keiji Gotoh, who was tasked with adapting Juu Ayakura’s original light novel illustrations for the screen. The goal of these shorts was to provide fans with brief, character-driven moments that captured the charm of the series without the narrative weight of the primary season arc. Upon release, they were generally well-received by the existing fanbase as a pleasant, low-stakes extension of the show's established atmosphere and aesthetic.
