Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, released in 2015, marked the beginning of a new trilogy under the Lucasfilm banner following the acquisition of the studio by The Walt Disney Company in 2012. Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film was designed to bridge the gap between the original trilogy and a new generation of characters, emphasizing practical effects and location shooting to evoke the aesthetic of the 1977 original. The production sought to recapture the mythic tone of the series while introducing a fresh narrative scope.

The film's visual identity was heavily influenced by the work of concept artists like Doug Chiang and Iain McCaig, who aimed to blend familiar iconography—such as the X-wing and Millennium Falcon—with updated, weathered designs. Upon release, the film was a significant cultural event, receiving generally positive reviews for its pace and performances. It remains a central piece in modern cinema history as the catalyst for the expansion of the Star Wars expanded universe across film, streaming, and theme parks.
