Where it came from
The STARMYU OVA was released in 2016 following the conclusion of the first season of the musical-themed anime series produced by C-Station. Serving as a narrative bridge between the initial television run and the subsequent second season, the production was designed to further develop the interpersonal dynamics of the five main students of the Ayana Academy’s musical department. By expanding on the established characters and their journey toward professional performance, the OVA reinforced the series' focus on camaraderie and artistic aspiration.
Directed by Shunsuke Tada and animated by C-Station, the project sought to maintain the visual consistency and lighthearted, high-energy tone that defined the original series. The design ethos emphasized expressive character animation and choreographed musical sequences, which were central to the franchise's appeal among fans of the idol and musical genres. Upon its release, the OVA was well-received by the established audience, who appreciated the additional character-driven segments that deepened the lore of the Star Team program.
