Starting Over

Starting Over emerged from the creative environment of Geidai Animation, a program at the Tokyo University of the Arts known for fostering experimental and narrative-driven short-form animation. The project was conceived as an academic exploration of visual storytelling, developed by student animators who aimed to balance traditional techniques with contemporary artistic sensibilities. The production process focused on intentional character movement and atmospheric design, reflecting the rigorous aesthetic standards emphasized within the university's curriculum.

The film is recognized for its minimalist visual language and emotive framing, which were deliberately chosen to capture the nuance of its central themes. Upon its release, the work was noted in animation circles for its technical precision and the maturity of its directorial vision, marking it as a notable example of the high-caliber output associated with the Geidai Animation department. It remains a representative piece of the institution's commitment to developing distinct voices in the Japanese independent animation scene.
