Where it came from
Step Up Love Story, known in Japan as Futari H, originated as a long-running manga series by Katsu Aki before being adapted into this 2002 original video animation. Produced by Half H.P Studio, the project aimed to translate the series' focus on the evolving intimacy and domestic life of a newlywed couple into an animated format, reflecting the cultural landscape of early 2000s seinen manga adaptations.
The animation design was crafted to mirror the aesthetic sensibilities of Katsu Aki’s original character work, emphasizing a grounded, slice-of-life approach to adult relationships. Upon its release, the OVA was received as a niche addition to the romantic comedy genre, serving primarily as a visual supplement for the established fanbase of the source material rather than a mainstream breakout.
