Story of Krishna

The Story of Krishna is a classic work of Indian animation produced during a period of significant growth in the country’s domestic film industry. Created to translate traditional mythological narratives into an accessible visual medium, the production was designed to appeal to both younger audiences and those interested in the cultural heritage of the Bhagavata Purana. It functions as a historical document of mid-to-late 20th-century devotional storytelling in cinema.

The animation style reflects the artistic conventions common to Indian devotional films of its era, characterized by vibrant color palettes and iconic character renderings that echo traditional temple paintings and folk art. While its production context was largely educational and cultural rather than avant-garde, it was received as a sincere attempt to preserve ancient oral traditions through modern celluloid, serving as a staple in schools and community screenings across the subcontinent.
