Where it came from
Sukisho, formally titled Suki na Mono wa Suki Dakara Shōganai, was adapted into a 12-episode television anime series by Studio ZEXCS in 2005. It originates from a popular series of boys' love visual novels produced by Umitsuki Rei and the company Loop. The transition to the screen sought to capture the series' distinctive blend of supernatural mystery, psychological drama, and romantic tension, setting it within a boarding school environment that highlights the developing bonds between the protagonists.
The character designs for the anime were handled by staff aiming to maintain the soft, emotive aesthetic prevalent in the original visual novels, which was a hallmark of the genre's visual language during the mid-2000s. Upon its release, the series became a notable example of the era's experimentation with adapting narrative-heavy visual novel content into linear animated storytelling, receiving attention for its complex plot structure and dedicated fanbase.
