Where it came from
The Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet -The Third Episode- Pilot-ban is a promotional original net animation released in 2018 to generate anticipation for the release of the video game Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet. Produced by A-1 Pictures, the short served as an extension of the game's marketing campaign, aiming to bridge the narrative gap between the established Sword Art Online anime universe and the post-apocalyptic setting of the game's Gun Gale Online environment.
The animation features character designs adapted from the work of abec, the original illustrator for the Sword Art Online light novel series. By emphasizing the tactical combat and virtual reality aesthetics central to the game's premise, the creators sought to capture the interest of fans of both the original series and the third-person shooter genre. It was received as a functional marketing tool, designed to provide a cinematic look at the game's story dynamics rather than serving as a stand-alone narrative entry.
