Surreal cutout (kiri-gami) animation following a young girl's physical journey, which is also an inner voyage through which she will learn all the pain and joy of life. She travels to an anonymous Western city, a bizarre dreamscape cluttered with elements from works by Dali, Magritte, de Chirico and Escher. The journey will change her completely but when she returns she will be the only one who knows how she has changed.
(The poem in the film is by Su Tong-Po, a famous Chinese poet)

Where it came from
Tabi originated from the creative output of Circus Production, a studio known for its experimental approach to independent animation. Released as a short film project, the piece was crafted to explore themes of isolation and sensory perception through minimalist visual storytelling. The production team focused on a muted color palette and deliberate pacing to contrast with the high-energy aesthetic prevalent in contemporary animation of the period.
The film was received by critics as a poignant, if niche, contribution to the genre. Design choices, particularly the emphasis on geometric abstraction and fluid character movement, were intended to evoke an internal, meditative experience for the viewer. While it did not receive widespread commercial distribution, it maintained a consistent reputation within animation circles as a sophisticated example of the studio’s conceptual depth and commitment to artistic atmosphere.
