Taiman Blues: Ladies-hen - Mayumi

Taiman Blues: Ladies-hen - Mayumi is a 1990 original video animation produced by Tokuma Japan Communications during a period when the Japanese home video market was heavily invested in adaptations of adult-oriented manga. The title emerged from the robust direct-to-video industry of the late eighties and early nineties, which served as a primary outlet for experimental and genre-specific narratives that fell outside the scope of mainstream broadcast television.

The production reflects the visual conventions of the era’s character-driven anime, focusing on the stylized aesthetic that defined the soft-core erotic drama genre. While the directorial and animation staff aimed to replicate the atmosphere of their source material for a dedicated niche audience, the title remains a characteristic, albeit minor, example of the era's focus on character-centric OVAs. It was primarily distributed through rental shops and specialty retail outlets, marking it as a snapshot of the specific subculture prevalent in the Japanese physical media landscape at the turn of the decade.
