TALES OF Puppet

Tales of the Abyss: The Abyss, often referred to in promotional materials as Tales of Puppet, was released in 2018 as a series of short-form original net animation (ONA) segments. Produced by Bandai Entertainment and animated by Ufotable, these vignettes were designed to complement the long-running Tales of role-playing game series by featuring chibi-style character designs. The goal was to provide a humorous, lighthearted look at the franchise's cast, serving as a promotional bridge for fans of the existing video game titles.

The aesthetic of the puppet-style animation draws directly from the popular 'Tales of' chibi traditions, which have been a staple of the series' promotional content for years. By utilizing simple, expressive character models, the animators focused on slapstick comedy and character-driven skits that deviate from the more serious narrative tone of the main game installments. The production was well-received by the dedicated fan community, who appreciated the stylistic departure as a whimsical celebration of the series' extensive character history.
