Tales of Symphonia The Animation: Kaettekita Kratos-sensei no Private Lesson

Tales of Symphonia The Animation: Kaettekita Kratos-sensei no Private Lesson was produced by ufotable in 2008 as a bonus short film released alongside the DVD volumes of the Tales of Symphonia OVA series. This lighthearted special was created to capitalize on the popularity of the game's characters, providing a comedic, non-canonical diversion that contrasts with the more serious tone of the main narrative. It serves as a testament to ufotable's early work with the Bandai Namco franchise, showcasing their ability to transition between high-stakes fantasy and character-driven humor.

The animation features the character Kratos Aurion acting as an instructor, a meta-commentary on his role as a mentor figure within the game's lore. The design and direction focus on the playful 'chibi' aesthetic frequently employed in Japanese anime home video releases to reward fans who purchased the physical sets. While it was never intended to advance the overarching plot of the Sylvarant or Tethe'alla arcs, it was well-received by the existing fanbase for its self-aware writing and the return of the original voice cast, solidifying its place as a quintessential piece of supplemental media for the series.
