Where it came from
Tawawa on Monday, known in Japanese as Getsuyoubi no Tawawa, originated as a series of illustrative social media posts by the artist Kiseki Himura. These weekly drawings, typically shared on Mondays to provide encouragement to workers at the start of the week, gained significant cultural traction through their distinctive aesthetic and themes of everyday life. This online success led to the production of an original net animation series in 2016.
The animation adaptation was produced by studio PINE JAM and directed by Kousuke Murayama. The project aimed to translate the episodic, slice-of-life nature of the original illustrations into a short-form animated format. Upon its initial release, the series became a notable example of the trend toward web-distributed animation, drawing attention for its rapid release schedule and its direct derivation from a digital-first creative platform.
