Ten Tokyo Warriors

Ten Tokyo Warriors, known in Japan as Tokyo Juuki, was produced by Studio KSS and released as a six-episode original video animation (OVA) series starting in 1999. It emerged during the late nineties boom of supernatural and action-oriented OVAs, a period characterized by experimental storytelling and the blending of traditional fantasy elements with modern urban settings. The production sought to capitalize on the aesthetic trends of the era, focusing on ensemble casts and heightened, stylized combat sequences common in the darker side of late-twentieth-century anime.

The series was directed by Toshihiko Masuda, with character designs intended to align with the edgy, high-contrast visual style prevalent in direct-to-video anime markets at the time. Reception of the series was muted; while it was notable for its distinct visual identity within the KSS catalog, it is generally remembered as a niche title. Critics and audiences of the period often placed it within the broader landscape of genre-specific anime, noting its reliance on established tropes of the supernatural warrior subgenre, ultimately seeing it as a functional, if conventional, entry in the KSS library.
