Yayoi Sakamoto, a diehard fan of comedians and comedy acts, enrolls in the private Kazuki High School in Nanba (Osaka's entertainment district famous as the starting point for many comedians). She reunites with Yomogi Takahashi, a childhood friend who once formed the comedy duo "Konamonzu" with her when they were little. Before long, they find themselves putting together a routine at a park like they did before, in order to enter a local shopping area's contest. At that moment, a mysterious girl calls out to them.

Where it came from
TEPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing 'til You Cry was produced by studio Drive and premiered in 2022 as an original anime adaptation based on the manga series Teppen—, written by Inujun and illustrated by Namamugi. The narrative centers on a group of young women who form comedy trios to compete in the world of professional stand-up, reflecting the real-world Japanese tradition of manzai, a style of comedic performance typically performed by duos or groups.
The production sought to blend the competitive spirit of youth sports anime with the specific timing and structural nuances of comedy performance. The design and animation were intended to capture the energy of live stage banter, though the series faced notable challenges during its broadcast run, including the suspension of its second episode following the death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, as the episode's content featured a plot line regarding an assassination that was deemed insensitive given the circumstances.
