Where it came from
The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You originated as a manga series written by Rikito Nakamura and illustrated by Yukiko Nozawa. Debuting in Weekly Young Jump in 2019, the series was conceived as a parody of the harem genre, taking its premise to an extreme by centering on a protagonist destined to have 100 soulmates. The narrative balances high-concept comedy with genuine character development, subverting traditional romance tropes by ensuring that every partner receives significant attention despite the growing size of the cast.
The 2023 anime adaptation, produced by Bibury Animation Studios and directed by Hikaru Sato, was designed to translate the series' kinetic, expressive art style into animation. The production aimed to maintain the frantic energy of the manga while establishing a distinct visual language for each of the primary characters. Upon its release, the series was noted for its meta-humor and its ability to maintain a surprisingly wholesome tone, receiving a positive reception from audiences who appreciated its earnest take on an inherently absurd premise.
