Where it came from
The Cougar Trap was released in 2009 as an original video animation (OVA) by Kitty Film, a studio long recognized for its contributions to the Japanese animation industry. This project emerged during a period when the studio was revisiting its niche for adult-oriented narratives, focusing on tight, self-contained storytelling formats that could be distributed directly to enthusiasts rather than through traditional television broadcast schedules.
The production sought to balance the era's aesthetic trends in character design with the specific thematic tone required by the project's genre. By leveraging the expertise of seasoned animators at Kitty Film, the work aimed to deliver a visually consistent experience that met the expectations of its target audience. While it remains a specialized entry in the studio's extensive filmography, it serves as a representative example of how animation houses utilized the OVA market to explore mature themes throughout the late 2000s.
