The Day the Duck Flew

The Day the Duck Flew originated as a student project at the Tama Art University, a prestigious institution known for its rigorous fine arts and design programs. Produced within the university's animation department, the short film emerged from a pedagogical environment that encourages students to experiment with narrative structure and visual storytelling. It reflects the distinctive, craft-oriented approach common to the university's portfolio, prioritizing artistic expression and technical exploration over commercial mass-market appeal.

The film was conceived as an exercise in character design and sequential movement, utilizing traditional animation techniques common to the curriculum. The creative direction aimed to distill a whimsical narrative into a short-form visual experience, emphasizing fluidity and expressive line work. Upon its release within the university’s exhibition circuit, it was received as a promising example of student-led independent animation, highlighting the foundational skills and creative intent fostered by the faculty during that period.
