Where it came from
The Day the Earth Moved, released in 1997, is a feature-length film produced by Tama Production within the context of the long-running Doraemon franchise. It serves as the eighteenth installment in the annual theatrical series that began in the 1980s, designed to capture the imaginations of younger audiences by blending science fiction tropes with the established, comforting dynamics of the show's core cast.
The film's visual design and direction reflect the mid-nineties aesthetic of the studio, focusing on the character-driven narrative typical of the series' creator, Fujiko F. Fujio. As with many entries in this franchise, it was received as a standard annual theatrical event, praised by fans for its focus on environmental themes and adventure while maintaining the studio's commitment to traditional cel-animation techniques before the eventual industry-wide transition to digital production.
