Where it came from
The Epic of Zektbach is an original video animation released in 2011, produced by the studio AIC. It serves as a visual adaptation of the complex, multi-media fantasy world created by composer Tomosuke Funaki for Konami’s Bemani music game series. The project was conceived to bring the narrative threads of the Zektbach story, which had previously existed primarily through music and album booklets, into a cohesive animated format.
The production sought to visualize the high-fantasy aesthetic associated with the Zektbach franchise, characterized by its operatic themes and tragic storytelling. The animation style mirrors the ornate, dramatic illustrations often found in the project's album art. Upon its release, it was received primarily by the established fan base of the music games, acting as a narrative capstone to a long-running transmedia experiment that merged digital rhythm gameplay with expansive, lore-heavy world-building.
