In the ruined city of the dead far from human civilization lives a single human child named Will. He is raised by three undead: Blood the heroic skeleton warrior, Mary the ladylike mummy priestess, and Gus the crotchety ghost wizard. The three of them teach the boy what they know and pour their love into him.
One day, the boy begins to wonder, "Who am I?" Will uncovers the mysteries of the undead hidden in this faraway land. He learns of the love and mercy of good gods, as well as the paranoia and madness of evil gods. And once he learns it all, the boy embarks on the path to becoming a Paladin.

Where it came from
The Faraway Paladin, adapted from the light novel series by Kanata Yanagino, was produced by Children's Playground Entertainment and premiered in 2021. The series emerged during a period of high output for the 'isekai' fantasy subgenre, aiming to distinguish itself by focusing on a more somber, character-driven narrative centered on themes of legacy, faith, and the responsibilities of a hero raised by undead guardians.
The production sought to balance high-fantasy aesthetics with a deliberate, episodic pacing that mirrored the introspective nature of the source material. While the animation style was designed to evoke a traditional fantasy atmosphere, the series received a measured critical reception, with praise directed toward its sincere emotional beats and world-building, though some viewers noted inconsistencies in the animation quality compared to contemporary high-budget studio works.
