Where it came from
The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance was released in 2016 as the second season of the anime adaptation based on the epic fantasy novel series by Yoshiki Tanaka. Produced by studio LIDENFILMS, this follow-up continued the narrative of Prince Arslan as he fought to reclaim his kingdom of Pars. The series was developed to conclude the initial arcs of the manga adaptation by Hiromu Arakawa, shifting the tone toward a faster-paced conflict compared to the more measured buildup of the 2015 debut season.
The character designs for this series were largely derived from Hiromu Arakawa’s widely praised manga rendition, which balanced traditional fantasy tropes with a distinct sense of geopolitical scale. The production aimed to maintain the high-stakes tactical warfare themes established in the novels while translating Arakawa's dynamic art style to the screen. Upon its broadcast, the series was received as a competent continuation of the franchise, noted particularly for its focus on large-scale cavalry maneuvers and the evolving political maturation of its titular protagonist.
