Where it came from
The Irregular at Magic High School: Get to Know Magic Studies was produced by Aniplex in 2014 as a series of short-form original net animation (ONA) segments. These episodes were released alongside the main television anime adaptation to provide viewers with accessible, humorous explanations of the complex magical terminology and sociopolitical world-building established in Tsutomu Sato's original light novel series.
The series utilizes a simplified, chibi-style aesthetic to contrast with the technical, often dense narrative of the primary show. By focusing on the perspectives of characters like Miyuki Shiba, these shorts functioned as supplemental pedagogical tools, helping the audience navigate the intricacies of the show's magic system while maintaining the lighthearted tone common in character-driven promotional anime spin-offs.
